Varanid is a early-stage open source project to build an alerting system that is:
- Easily Managed
-- characteristics important for monitoring cloud deployments.
But is the architecture viable? Can it really deliver? Is it even necessary? This discussion seeks opinions about this.
The #monitoringsucks trend over the last couple of years has exposed widespread dissatisfaction in the current state of monitoring.
Nagios in particular is often seen as a solution to problems of another age. Varanid is the speaker's answer to it's perceived shortcomings.
However, as a clean-sheet design by a comparative outsider to the problem-space, is it really the correct solution? Is it architecturally sound? Are the design decisions valid? This discussion seeks to elicit feedback and opinions to drive the evolution of the code.
Over the last 15 years, Biju has been a developer, consultant, sales engineer, buildmaster, project manager and is currently a sysadmin at Directi. He has been active in the Open Source community as a maintainer, event organizer and community moderator.
